Unfortunately, some sellers on Japanese auction and flea market sites may upload misleading or confusing listings that can easily cause misunderstandings for buyers.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udea8 Listings that show multiple items in a photo when only 1 item \/ 1 part is for sale<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Recently, we have noticed that there is a trend on JDirectItems Auction (Formerly: Yahoo! JAPAN Auction) and on Japan flea market sites such as Mercari and Rakuten Rakuma for sellers to use a photo for their listing that displays multiple items. But upon closer inspection of the description, it says that <\/span>not all of the items<\/b> are being sold but instead, only one \/ a portion of the items are available for purchase.<\/span><\/p>\n

Below, you can see an example.<\/span><\/p>\n

This listing uses a photo with multiple items displayed, so it can be easy to believe that upon purchasing, you will get all the items in the picture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, in Japanese, the underlined section of the description (\u3053\u3061\u3089\u306e\u4e2d\u6bb5\u307e\u3093\u4e2d\u306e\u3061\u3044\u304b\u308f\u5bff\u53f8\u30de\u30b9\u30b3\u30c3\u30c8\u3044\u304f\u3089\u306e\u307f\u306e\u8cfc\u5165\u30da\u30fc\u30b8\u3067\u3059\u3002\u5370\u3092\u3064\u3051\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059) translates to: \u201cThis is the purchase page for only the Chiikawa Sushi Salmon Mascot in the middle of the middle row<\/strong>. It is marked in the image.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But if you look at the image, the mark that they put is so small and hard to see! It\u2019s very easy to miss and if you can\u2019t read Japanese, then you won\u2019t be able to know this.<\/span><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udea8 Listings Using \u201c\u00d725\u201d or Similar Numbers<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Another example of misleading listings are those with numbers such as x25 written on the item name or on the product image, like in the example below.<\/span><\/p>\n

It would be easy to believe that this means there are 25 pieces of that item being sold, however there have been cases where only 1 item is being sold and it\u2019s the <\/span>price of the item<\/b> that\u2019s increased 25 times and not the number of pieces included.<\/span>

\ud83d\udea8 Misleading \u201cBulk Lot (\u5927\u91cf\u307e\u3068\u3081\u58f2\u308a)\u201d Listings on Japanese Marketplaces<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

We would like to share an example of a misleading listing style that has recently started appearing on some auction and flea market platforms in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product title advertised a <\/span>\u300c100\u70b9\u30bb\u30c3\u30c8\u300d<\/b> (\u201c100-piece set\u201d) of anime goods and figures. However, when we received the order at our warehouse and inspected the items, we found that only 24 items were actually included.<\/span><\/p>\n

It appears the seller may have intentionally used confusing wording. According to our Japanese team, the \u201c100\u201d (<\/span>100\u70b9\u30bb\u30c3\u30c8)<\/b> may not have referred to the actual number of items included, but instead to an expression in Japanese similar to <\/span>\u201c100 points\u201d<\/b> or <\/span>\u201cperfect score.\u201d<\/b> While this may technically be considered wordplay, it can easily create misunderstandings for buyers expecting a much larger set.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, listings with vague or misleading descriptions like this can sometimes be found in \u201cBulk Lot (\u5927\u91cf\u307e\u3068\u3081\u58f2\u308a)\u201d or assorted anime goods categories.<\/span><\/p>\n
