The Ultimate AKB48 Photo Guide Part 3

The theater photos of the AKB48 are series of collectible photograph sets that are most likely to take over the B.L.T. regular series. They were launched in 2009 by the AKS and were originally considered as an alternative source of photographs to B.L.T. Now it might be the most popular with the B.L.T. agreement not being renewed.

The AKB48 Monthly Theater Pictures

If you happen to be in the area of Akihabara, drop by the Don Quixote building or the home theater of AKB48. On the 5th floor, you will find the AKB48 shop where the theater photos are sold and new ones are released every 26th of each month. However, the photos are not available everyday because they tend to get sold out quickly. Thus, you will have to make sure to check on what days of the week, usually 5 days, the store is open. Also, the closer the date after the 26th, there is almost certainly going to be long queues.

The theater shots are studio shots so they have a similar resemblance to the kinds of photos released by the B.L.T. They also have a bar in the same area of the photograph which is at the bottom of the picture with the details such as name, team, and date the photo was printed. With the B.L.T. shots, the color of the bar was constant. With the AKB48 theater shots, the bar color changes monthly. The bar colors are coordinated to match the costume so it looks like it is part of the photograph instead of simply being an identification bar. In addition to the different bar color, the theater shots come in sets of 4 per girl as compared to the B.L.T.’s sets of 3. And instead of colored backgrounds, the theater shots are always with a white background and the girls are in different theater costumes in each monthly set.

The Ultimate AKB48 Photo Guide Part 2

As part of the second portion of our AKB48 photo guide, we focus on the special photos done by B.L.T. These are limited edition photographs and hard to find. They are also difficult to price since they have become coveted collector’s items for all AKB48 fans.

The U-17 Batch

This is the set of rare Under 17 or U-17 B.L.T. pictures that feature members who fall under this age category. In the B.L.T. magazines which were published every quarter, the issues have the good quality photos on the front and back pages. These issues never hit the stands since they were only available for online sales. The advantage with the online sales is that it gave the buyer a chance to pick from among 48 celebrity photos or buy the U-17 AKB48 batch. The AKB48 U-17 was sold for 1,500 yen each with 3 random photos. B.L.T. did not enforce a limit on the number of photos a buyer could order for the U-17 batch.

Attack on Titan – Show Us Your Best “Pretend Attack on Titan” Photo Meme!

Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人

Remember how we talked about how popular Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人)was in the last blog post? It was already pretty famous even when it was just a regular manga series, but when the anime came out this April, it became even more popular. So popular that even idols and celebrities watch it! If you don’t believe me, here’s a picture of AKB48 member Karen Iwata doing a cosplay of Mikasa, complete with the precious scarf that her adopted brother Eren gave her! Doesn’t she look cute?

Other idol groups, such as SKE48, seem to enjoy the series too. Reina Matsui took a picture of her fellow group members, Akane Takayanagi, Airi Furukawa, Masana Ohya, and Rena Matsui recreating a scene from the anime. The gruesome event of a person being eaten by a Titan looks adorable instead now that idols are doing it! The feeling and atmosphere in this picture is completely different from the sense of despair you usually get in the series! (more…)

Attack On Titan “Shingeki no kyojin” Anime Huge Hit in Japan!

Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人

進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin) or Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime series this summer, and for a good reason! Its story revolves around mankind’s struggle against Titans, mindless giants who have an unsettling resemblance to humans and have caused so much death and destruction that survivors were forced to retreat behind walled cities to continue living.

The series itself is tightly plotted and beautifully animated, but what sets it apart from the rest is its complex, incredibly sympathetic cast. Eren Yeager, the main character, is probably the angriest, most bloodthirsty protagonist to ever be given the role of a ‘good guy.’ His defining characteristic is his intense hatred of Titans, and his desire to kill them all—but he’s so interesting because he’s so different from what people normally expect a protagonist to be. When he joins the Scouting Legion, a military branch who have been tasked to explore the world outside the walls while battling Titans, we get introduced to a huge array of interesting, believable characters—and since this is a series with an enormous body count, the fans watch each episode worried that their favorite might not make it to the next. (This is a legitimate worry—they really don’t, sometimes!)

Neon Genesis Evangelion G-Shock Limited Editions

EVANGELION

Neon Genesis Evangelion is such a popular series that introductions are unnecessary, but for the purposes of this blog, I’ll make one anyway! It started as an anime series in 1995, and gained a lot of status as a very realistic portrayal of how traumatic it is for teenagers to actually have to shoulder the burden of fighting for humanity inside a giant mecha in an apocalyptic world.
