Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人

Remember how we talked about how popular Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人)was in the last blog post? It was already pretty famous even when it was just a regular manga series, but when the anime came out this April, it became even more popular. So popular that even idols and celebrities watch it! If you don’t believe me, here’s a picture of AKB48 member Karen Iwata doing a cosplay of Mikasa, complete with the precious scarf that her adopted brother Eren gave her! Doesn’t she look cute?

Other idol groups, such as SKE48, seem to enjoy the series too. Reina Matsui took a picture of her fellow group members, Akane Takayanagi, Airi Furukawa, Masana Ohya, and Rena Matsui recreating a scene from the anime. The gruesome event of a person being eaten by a Titan looks adorable instead now that idols are doing it! The feeling and atmosphere in this picture is completely different from the sense of despair you usually get in the series! (more…)

Attack On Titan “Shingeki no kyojin” Anime Huge Hit in Japan!

Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人

進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin) or Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime series this summer, and for a good reason! Its story revolves around mankind’s struggle against Titans, mindless giants who have an unsettling resemblance to humans and have caused so much death and destruction that survivors were forced to retreat behind walled cities to continue living.

The series itself is tightly plotted and beautifully animated, but what sets it apart from the rest is its complex, incredibly sympathetic cast. Eren Yeager, the main character, is probably the angriest, most bloodthirsty protagonist to ever be given the role of a ‘good guy.’ His defining characteristic is his intense hatred of Titans, and his desire to kill them all—but he’s so interesting because he’s so different from what people normally expect a protagonist to be. When he joins the Scouting Legion, a military branch who have been tasked to explore the world outside the walls while battling Titans, we get introduced to a huge array of interesting, believable characters—and since this is a series with an enormous body count, the fans watch each episode worried that their favorite might not make it to the next. (This is a legitimate worry—they really don’t, sometimes!)

Neon Genesis Evangelion G-Shock Limited Editions

EVANGELION

Neon Genesis Evangelion is such a popular series that introductions are unnecessary, but for the purposes of this blog, I’ll make one anyway! It started as an anime series in 1995, and gained a lot of status as a very realistic portrayal of how traumatic it is for teenagers to actually have to shoulder the burden of fighting for humanity inside a giant mecha in an apocalyptic world.

G-shock Celebrating 30 Years of Timepiece Innovation

G-shock is celebrating 30 years of timepiece innovation. In celebratory fashion they are releasing a series of fashionable, limited, and highly desired models. Collectors and aficionados from all over the world are keeping their ears to the ground in hopes of getting in on the action, as some of these beautiful art works are collaborations with powerhouse names and will only be released in limited quantities for Japanese audiences. Not familiar with limited releases? Here are a few to get your feet wet.

Evangelion x G-shock

Anime is no stranger to Japanese markets and there’s no surprise why the award winning series Evangelion has teamed up with G-Shock to release two movie editions. The red with orange accents DW-6900, which is reminiscent of Asuka the fiery red hair Unit-02 pilot. This particular model brands Asuka’s profile on one band and the numbers 02 followed by her name on the other. The second is black with purple accents DW-5600 and is designed with Unit 01 the “Test Type” in mind. The word Evangelion is printed in purple on one band and the words “Nerve, God’s In His Heaven, All’s Right With the World” is printed on the other. Both models are limited and can only be found in Japan. Get your own Eva G-Shock here.

One Piece x G-shock

Not a fan of Eva? What about Gundam, Akira, or perhaps One Piece (Straw Hat Pirates)? One Piece Straw Hat Pirates is limited to 3,000 units and is with no doubt one of my favorites. The straps brands silhouettes of all the Straw Hat Pirates. The LED screen illuminates the crews Jolly Roger, or a skull and cross-bone for those of you who aren’t familiar with the series. The backplate depicts Shank putting a straw hat on young Luffy’s head, and as if those meticulous details weren’t enough, the actual watch case is designed to resemble a treasure chest. Act fast if you want to secure your super rare One Piece G-Shock and buy it here.
